Preliminary Training to CPCB staff on “Enforcement Directive for Environmental Compliance in Leather Tannery Sector in India”

A training programme was organized on “Enforcement Directive for Environmental Compliance in Leather Tannery Sector in India” during September 27-29, 2016 for the staff of the Central Pollution Control Board at their office in New Delhi. Ms. Jutta Knoedler, a senior German expert on leather and tannery sector conducted the training session. Ms Knoedler was engaged by GIZ (SEIP Project) for developing enforcement directives for the tannery sector in India based on German/European experience.

The topics covered included BREF (best available techniques reference documents) process connected with the tannery sector, gaps and needed improvements in the existing enforcement protocols/directives, and the potential technical solutions for pretreatment in the tanneries and improvement of the CETPs.
